This was a particularly difficult morning. Tuesday had to play the part of a Monday after a glorious three-day weekend . It’s a thankless gig and it’s never going to be easy. My house was ready for summer to just get on with it and begin today. That speaks well of the weekend we had, I suppose. How did my fellow bloggers do?
Tory: I spent the weekend back home in the Midwest. We went to my husband’s high school reunion and then pit stopped in Cincinnati on the way back to see my sister and brother-in-law. Lots of fun and laughs this weekend…now onto Summer!
Jon: We started our long weekend with dinner at Ted’s Bulletin on Friday–I can attest to their kid-friendliness, their homemade poptarts, and to their short-rib sandwich. We had a great barbecue at home on Sunday with friends and ended the long weekend with a short trip off the Hill to Hains Point on Monday evening to watch boats go by and planes land.
Kate: I got the heck out of dodge on Saturday a.m. so not much to report. I did have the odd experience of watching some of the Memorial Day concert on TV Sunday night … and of course I got teary during all the Gary Sinise dramatic readings. It made me miss being a local; it was the first time in a few years we didn’t take in the Saturday night NSO dress rehearsal concert. It’s so much more fun with room to spread out on the West Lawn, watching kids turning cartwheels, and the smaller, more mellow crowd.
Tim: Spent the weekend vectoring 162 eighth graders through all DC has to offer: rolling road blocks, backed up traffic, “suspicious packages” at the Capitol, surly cops at the same, blistering heat, and massive crowds of tourists. Retreated late last night to the relative quiet and sanity of the Hill.
Liz: Had my inaugural weekend at Cheverly as new member. So many people from different stages and experiences of my Hill life were there, that it was like a Hill afterlife, only in bathing trunks and bikinis.
Nichole: On Friday I picked up an 11 pound whole suckling pig at Union Meats in Eastern Market for roasting during a weekend camping trip along the Patuxent River in Maryland. It was our first time roasting a whole pig at camp and overall, it went well. It’s definitely something we’ll do again, just maybe a little closer to civilization! Got back to the Hill last night and fell asleep pretty much the second I walked in the door. Drinking, eating and canoeing all weekend is exhausting.
Kyra: We spent the weekend clearing our backyard of all things dead and/or invasive (read: tree trunks, tree roots, crazy vines) and prepping the remaining soil for sod. One more weekend and we will be able to use our backyard for the first time in years.
Maria: Gardened, enjoyed the muggy weather, and tried to catch fireflies with the kids.
Robert: Spent the weekend mainly on the Hill, having dinner with neighbors and the like. Our only excursion was when we tried to go to Roosevelt Island on Memorial day – and failed. Wrapped it up with our first trip to Ted’s Bulletin.
Jen: I spent the weekend turning 40. Friday night we watched a dramatic battle between the two Capitol Hill Little League 7 and 8 year old teams who both entered the game with winless seasons. The little troupers played through the drizzle and I think our team won but I’m not entirely sure. Saturday I was treated to a massage at the Mandarin Oriental and thought I was having dinner at Acqua al 2 but instead came home to a surprise party organized by my fabulous and very sneaky husband. We all went to brunch at Ted’s the next morning and the food took a while but was delicious and worth the wait.
