What a week we have here!  The NCAA tournament is starting, St. Patrick’s Day festivities are planned, and we’re finally getting a break from the rain.  Now if only I could figure out a way to set up my computer outdoors and by a television so I could get my work done while still enjoying the gorgeous weather and sportsmania…

While I go back to contemplating how to pull that off (please feel free to share your tips), enjoy a long list of links you may have missed in the last week.

  • NBC 4 featured the tree sweater outside of Stitch D.C. on Barracks Row.
  • Greater Greater Washington looked at the how the traffic calming plans for C Street will also help the street be more green.
  • Urban Turf reported that Jenkins Row is down to its last unit.
  • According to Prince of Petworth, the owner of Molly Malone’s, Lola’s and soon to open Cheseapeake Room bought Capitol Hill Veterinary Clinic.  There is no word on what the space will be turned into, and no confirmation yet on the purchase of the property.
  • JDLand and Greater Greater Washington have details on last week’s meeting about Tommy Wells’ vision to “complete” M Street SE and SW.  More coverage can be found on TheWashCycle (crossposted from Greater Greater Washington), SWDC Blog, and Tommy Wells’ blog.  There was apparently some anti-cyclist sentiment within the audience as well.  According to Greater Greater Washington/TheWashCycle, “Then there were the people who just don’t like cyclists. One particularly angry woman asked ‘Who are these bike lanes for? Who uses a bike to drop off their kids at school? Who brings home groceries for a family of four on a bicycle?’ But after each question several hands went up from people who did those very things. To that, she responded sarcastically each time, ‘Congratulations, you must be real proud of yourself.’ After the school question, she added, ‘You’re an irresponsible parent.'” See what you miss when you skip out on these meetings?
  • The Washington Examiner reported on the battle between the principal of Tyler Elementary and dog owners who have been locked out of the school’s field, which had become a favorite spot for pooches to run off leash.  There will be a community meeting on the 22nd to try to resolve the issues.
  • According to the Washington Examiner, the city is committing upward of $400 million to to purchase, redevelop and occupy the old Washington Star printing plant in SE, which has been sitting vacant since the city rented it in 2007.
  • The Washington Post shared some optimistic views about the development on H Street from the corridor’s merchants, who are looking past things such as the massive street construction that has gridlock and leaving few available parking spaces.
  • The Post’s DC Wire is reporting that Tommy Wells may be facing some competition in his re-election campaign.
  • There’s been quite a reaction to news that Aldi’s is coming to Hechinger Mall.  See the 150+ comments on Frozen Tropics for the fun.
