As another heat wave settles in, it is more important than ever to water the trees outside our homes. Those trees provide shade and help cool our streets, but only if they are getting the water they need to stay healthy.
Tomorrow, the trees are getting a little extra help from Casey Trees, and you can help too! Thanks to a contribution from the Capitol Hill Community Foundation, the organization has teams heading out to help care for the more than 500 Casey Trees that have been planted around Capitol Hill. You’ll see high school teams out in the neighborhood all day, so stop and say thank you!
Casey Trees also offers the following tips and tools for getting involved:
- Follow. Track them on Capitol Hill all day tomorrow on Facebook and Twitter (use hashtag #waterblitz).
- Join. Water the trees on and surrounding your own property. Watch their video for watering tips and purchase a slow-release watering bag to make watering easier.
- Pledge. Make a pledge to water your trees all summer long online and they’ll mail you a complimentary rain gauge. If you receive less than 1.5 inches of rainfall – approximately equal to 25 gallons of water – in a week, water your trees.
- Stay informed. Get weekly watering recommendations through September on their website, Facebook page and regular updates on Twitter.
- Donate. Support their Summer Crew’s watering and care program with a gift of any amount today.
