Fan of Pandora? Judging by the full auditorium at the National Community Church on Barracks Row Wednesday night, the Hill has no shortage of Pandora listeners. The event, billed as a “listener town hall” was led by Pandora founder Tim Westergren and was an informal Q & A session.
It was fascinating to hear how the company was created (nothing like a multi-million dollar success story to make you wonder what you’re doing with your life!) but what really peaked my interest was how Pandora works to find songs the listener will like and how the Music Genome Project works.
There are several things cooking in the Pandora pipeline, including the possibility of adding a feature that would let users know when an artist they’re listening to is playing a nearby concert.
The crowd asked a lot of questions. One person asked if Pandora could create a station featuring local DC artists. Tim seemed impressed by that one so keep an eye out for that! And a note to DC recording artists, you can apply to have your music on Pandora. You can find out about the rules & guidelines on their website.
Pandora t-shirts were given out at the end of the event, so chances are you’ll see some around the Hill this weekend!
Who organized the event? Bummed I missed it, sounded awesome.
It was organized by Pandora — many in the crowd said they had received email invites from Pandora.
