Monday Morning Circle Time

Morning! Wow that was some seriously nutty pre-Halloween weather. We were lucky enough to have missed the worst of it although I kind of envy the kids in the snowy Northeast who get to spend the whole day today getting ready for Trick or Treating in the snow. Sunday morning, the Marine Corps marathoners had a brisk and sunny run, did anyone participate?

The H Street Thriller celebration did not happen and the Haunt Hunt and decorating contest drew few votes so voting was extended until tonight. The costumed pet contests went on although I heard one angry pet owner threw a fit because her pooch didn’t win. TLC needs to get in on this Terriers in Tiaras action soon.

Did the Snowtober wreck your Halloween plans?

Jon: We started Snowtober with breakfast at Tortilla Cafe and some errands in the Market area, followed by other chores and generally trying to stay dry. Sunday we avoided the running masses and closed streets of the marathon but still ended up in Alexandria for yet more errands, and ended the day with a trip to our friends’ house for a fun Halloween party of pumpkin carving and over-indulging on sweets.

Nichole: I spent Friday having dinner with the lovely Madame Meow and the Matriarch Meow. Saturday night I started to fulfill my goal of getting off the Hill at least twice a weekend, having drinks at Restaurant Eve with friends. Sunday I had drinks in Del Ray as soon as the roads reopened post Marine Corps Marathon and then headed back into the city for a friend’s birthday dinner in Bloomingdale.

Maria deemed this weekend too cold. She enjoyed dinner with Nichole; snowtime drinks with her good buddy Janet; catching up with Liz; coffee, tea, and other warm drinks; and rejoiced in the patriotic Schadenfreude of the Marine Corps Marathon.

On Saturday, Liz jogged alone around Lincoln Park as the thick snow flakes fell, and had a glorious time whipping through them, going faster than the cautious traffic rounding the bend. It was exhillirating. On Sunday, went strolling for last tidbits for Halloween costumes, dealt with many wardrobe issues before they became Halloween night malfunctions, and also nabbed a St. John’s knit couture black suit with fringe and nipped waist from Clothes Encounters for work and a black maternity skirt, cut on the bias, from Monkey’s Uncle, for cheap, to be shredded into a witch’s skirt to accompany some flame-print stockings, for a costume. On the way home, saw the Chateau Animaux doggie costume contest at Lincoln Park, and loved the little team of mutts dressed as Flying Monkies accompanied with Dorothy and the Wicked Witch.

Jen: The snowy/slushy/cold canceled all of our Saturday plans, including the kids’ final baseball games. Since Thriller on H was canceled I was able to attend a Halloween party. Our last minute costume-scramble worked out, we went as Mr. and Mrs. 1% and enjoyed our brief stint pretending to run the world. Sunday I finally made it to a great Fuse Pilates class at Red Bow and I am feeling it today.
