This was meant to run yesterday morning. It mistakenly did not run, but here’s how we spent our weekends – just a day late. -Ed.
Happy Valentine’s day, if you care. Or Hello, if you don’t. My opinion on this day is: Sure it’s a made-up holiday but I will always encourage a ritual that involves the exchange of chocolate. And honestly, after 12 years of marriage I I have no expectations and just get some for myself at this point.
But, Oh that was a nice weekend wasn’t it? The February bluster abated a bit this weekend and from my vantage point our fellow citizens did not waste this precious respite from ice and cold. I saw some folks tending yards and strolling to brunch like it was April. I even saw a brave blogger in flip flops.
This weekend saw a lot of theatrical action on the Hill, the Pug celebrated 4 years of existence and I believe there was an opportunity to do a charity run in one’s skivvies? Oh darn. Running. In public. In underwear. Shoot, can’t believe I missed that….
Oh but I hope someone out there went! Pleeease share with the class!
Sharee: This weekend’s theme was pie. We enticed some friends to come from Columbia Heights for dinner at Montmartre and dessert at Dangerously Delicious Pies (lemon chess, pecan). Saturday we celebrated a friend’s
birthday at Smith Commons, where we ran into Nichole. Sunday we did some blog brainstorming, which Claudia facilitated with pie (B-Bomb, chocolate peanut butter chess). At 4am the hubs started smoking a pork shoulder from Eastern Market, which we enjoyed with some friends from the neighborhood. And for dessert? Dangerously Delicious’s Elvis Pie (bacon banana cream on a peanut butter crust – worth every calorie).
Maria: Kicked off the weekend with a nice quiet dinner at Park Cafe; enjoyed the school spirit and the magic show at my older one’s school; watched the newest iCarly episode; enjoyed brainstorming with the THIHers and eating crazy pies; and finally, ended the weekend with a nice but not quiet family dinner at the Argonaut– happiness.
Lauren: Definitely not a typical weekend! Got engaged on Friday night. Was most surprised by my own reaction which was a state of complete (happy!) shock. Managed to semi wrap my head around events and celebrate at Sonoma on Friday night and with friends at our house on Saturday. Worked on Sunday and managed to drop in for the last bit of THIH brainstorming meeting.
Angelique: My weekend started off by going to Maury Loves Disco where Jack expressed his mothers love for indie bands by getting excited over the Black Keys and where Ally frightened me by getting excited for Justin Bieber. The rest of the weekend was spent trying to recover from germs the family contracted at the previous mentioned disco. Oh, and making Valentines.
Robert: I had a busy weekend. Started off my missing Maury Loves Disco and its attendant germs and going to the Mariinsky theater ballet at the Kennedy Center. Saturday morning I helped set up the Friends of Southeast Library book sale before heading off to my son’s violin lesson, and after that went to the Frederick Douglass house for his 193rd birthday celebration. Though my presence wasn’t enough to entice anyone away from the birthday cake and Anacostia Choir to hear what I had to say about Douglass and the statues in Lincoln Park, I did have a number of delightful one-on-one conversations with people there to celebrate. Sunday was spent at the THIH brainstorming session and ended up at Montmartre for an early valentine’s day dinner.
Jon: Saturday morning was spent visiting the Newseum for the first time and enjoying every moment of it. The afternoon was spent working though it was quite a productive day. Sunday included a trip to Eastern Market for the first time in months (how I’ve missed you, kettle corn) and brainstorming and pie eating with THIH folks.
Jen: It was a quiet weekend spent running errands and pow wowing with my favorite bloggers. We did LEAVE the Hill Saturday night to finally try Pete’s New Haven’s pizza and we were not disappointed. Yum. The gluten- free option only received an “eh” from my wee pizza snob /celiac and so our search continues…

I ALWAYS read this post on Monday mornings, but in I didn’t even get the chance to look at THIH in my rush yesterday. So as far as I’m concerned this is good timing! I guess other people have hectic, confusing Mondays too sometimes.
Congrats to Lauren on the engagement!
Thanks, Mackenzie! I hope to be celebrating this weekend in the what is supposed to be the “WARM”, 60 degree weather!!
