- MPD Makes Arrest in 2024 Child Death
The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of a suspect in a child death which occurred in Southeast.
On Wednesday, May 8th, 2024, First District officers responded to the 1400 block of L Street Southeast for reports of an unconscious child. Upon arrival officers discovered a juvenile female, unconscious and unresponsive. The child was transported to a local hospital where, after all life saving measures failed, was pronounced dead. The DC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled that the manner of death was a Homicide.
The victim has been identified as 3-year-old Zy’Onne Forney, of Southeast.
On Monday, November 3, 2025, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force (CARFTF), located and arrested 31-year-old James Crawley, of Southeast. Crawley was transported to MPD’s Homicide Branch where he was charged with First Degree Murder – Felony Murder and Cruelty to Children pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant. The detectives’ investigation confirmed the offense was domestic in nature.
- MPD Makes Arrest in Southeast Weapons Offense
The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of a suspect who pointed a gun at two people in Southeast.
On Friday, October 31st, 2025, at approximately 7:08pm, Sixth District officers responded to the 1400 block of 18th Place Southeast for reports of a person with a gun. Upon arrival the victims reported that the suspect approached them and accused the victims of not being from the neighborhood. The suspect began yelling and then brandished and pointed a handgun at the victims. The suspect fled as police arrived.
While police remained on the scene to investigate, the suspect returned and was detained. As a result of the on-scene investigation, 42-year-old Michael Huffman, of Southeast, was arrested and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun – Pointing)
- MPD Arrests Suspect in Attempted Armed Robbery
The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of a suspect in connection to an attempted armed robbery (gun) that occurred in the Northeast.
On Sunday, November 2, 2025, at approximately 4:18 p.m., the victim was in the 200 block of 20th Street, Northeast, selling their scooter. The suspects approached the victim, brandished handguns, and demanded the keys to the scooter. The victim fled the scene. One of the suspects was later apprehended by responding officers.
On Sunday, November 2, 2025, a 17-year-old juvenile male of Northwest, DC, was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery (Gun).
- MPD Investigating South Capitol Street Robbery
The Metropolitan Police Department seeks the community’s assistance to identify a suspect involved in a robbery that occurred in Southeast.
On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at approximately 8:56 a.m., the suspect approached the victim in the 1300 block of South Capitol Street, Southeast. The suspect displayed an unknown object and demanded the victim’s shoes. The victim complied and the suspect fled the scene.

- MPD Investigating Southeast Robbery
The Metropolitan Police Department seeks the community’s assistance to identify a suspect involved in a robbery that occurred in Southeast.
On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at approximately 4:50 p.m., the suspect approached the victim in the 1200 block of Half Street, Southeast. The suspect implied he had a weapon and demanded the victim’s property. The victim complied and the suspect fled the scene.

- MPD Warns of Police Impersonator Phone Scam
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is warning the public of an ongoing scam in which scammers are impersonating members of MPD by spoofing MPD phone numbers to defraud victims.
Scammers are impersonating members of MPD by replicating real government phone numbers and video calling victims. During the video call, the impersonator wears a police uniform and has a fake police logo in the background. They claim that the victim was identified as purchasing illegal drugs.
The scammers are spoofing the Second District police station phone number: (202) 715-7300.
However, the public should be aware that scammers often spoof various numbers, including those of law enforcement and government entities, to appear legitimate.
If you receive a call similar in nature:
-Don’t feel pressured to act. Scammers may have some public information about you (like your name and address), but that does not mean they are legitimate. Verify by contacting the appropriate agency directly using customer service info on their public websites.
-MPD will never demand payment by phone, email, or letter. Do not share your credit card number, personal information, or other financial information. Do not wire transfer money or transfer funds to anyone you do not know.
-Share what you know with others. By telling your friends and family members about the scam, you can help protect your community.
