We’ve had a couple of chilly weekends and one particularly miserable weekend with tons of rain– and it looks like this weekend is no different. Secretly hoping that all the moms reading this got to sleep in and not go outside and maybe got (nice) brunch in bed. Okay. What’s going on this weekend?

Bad weather ruined many a Cinco de Mayo celebration, so there are a couple worth mentioning right away, which we hope will still go on despite a little drizzle in the forecast:

The Live, on the Hill concert series is on! Last week, rain canceled the Friday concert and the Cinco de Mayo celebration, so this weekend the fun is as follows:

  • Friday, May 13, 5-6:30 p.m. – Live, on the Hill Jazz
  • Saturday, May 14, noon -5 p.m.- Postponed Cinco De Mayo Event

Looking for fun outdoor activities for the kiddos? On May 14, and every Saturday in the summer, the DC Public Library will be doing Pop-Up Storytime at Eastern Market Metro Park, starting at 10:30 a.m. Music, movement, puppets and so much more! For more info, click here.

The disc golf course is open again this week at the Fields at RFK–go try it out! More information here.

Biker Barre turns 10 this weekend, but the presents are for you! Check out all the special offers by clicking on their Instagram (and give them a follow– tell them we sent you!)

A new Capitol Hill Art League show, Dedicated to… is opening this Saturday, May 14, online and at Frame of Mine. More details here.

The NCB Capitol Hill Classic is coming this Sunday. You can still register here. Here is a map and guide to the race course.

The Running of the Chihuahuas is happening on Sunday, May 15 at the Wharf! Is there anything cuter than a brigade of tiny little stubby legged friends vying for a win? Absolutely not, which is why the District Wharf is doing their silly, delightful tradition starting at 1 p.m. For more details, info and RSVP, click here.

East City Books is hosting a special event on Tuesday, May 17, 6:30 p.m., at The Miracle Theatre with author Christina Lauren. She will be discussing her new book, Something Wilder. For more information and tickets, click here.

And at Capital Turnaround, and on the same date and time as the event above, you can be part of Dream Innovate: In The Marketplace. For more details and a list of speakers, click here.

On Wednesday, May 18, there will be live music at Trusty’s. A Garage Band with Grit Baxter will play starting at 7 p.m.

Bike to Work Day is Friday, May 20 from 7-9 a.m. and the Capitol Hill BID will have a special station with treats and swag if you’re choosing to live the two-wheeled life. More info here.

Are you passionate about helping working parents know and assert their rights AND you also love to dance? Then put First Shift Justice Project’s Dance Like a Mother benefit on your calendar! On May 20 starting at 6p.m., go to Wunder Garten or get down online and donate and dance for a great cause. More info here.

On Saturday, DC Fire and EMS celebrates their 150th birthday with a parade and everyone is invited! From 11 a.m. to to 5:30 p.m., Constitution Avenue NW from 7th to 14th Streets will be closed and you’ll be able to check out their apparatuses. For a little more info, click here.

PLAN AHEAD

This week’s news was big: Pharrell Williams is headlining in Something in the Water, a HUGE festival taking place *somewhere* along Independence Avenue SW (TBD), on Juneteenth weekend, June 17-19, 2022. The festival has its origins in Virginia Beach, but this year they are moving up farther north. The line-up is big and you can buy passes for the whole week starting Saturday, April 30. Click here to check out the lineup and to get your tickets (or bookmark it to get your tickets on 4/30).

The National Building Museum— one of my favorite museums in the city– always done something magical for their Summer Block Party series, and this year is no different. Together with the Folger Theater, this year they will bring an ACTUAL SHAKESPEAREAN PLAYHOUSE to the Grand Hall! The Playhouse will be open during the day for visiting, behind-the-scenes peeks and education. At night, it’ll transform into Titania and Oberon’s lair of love and mischief as the Folger Theater brings “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” to the stage starting July 12. For info on The Playhouse and the National Building Museum, click here. For play tickets, click here.

And it’s a ways off, but start getting excited for the DC Jazz Fest, August 31 to September 4 this year. Check out the line-up here.

Have fun while doing good! Hope & Seek , an in-person and virtual scavenger hunt is happening on Saturday, May 21. You can form your own team or support a team. The proceeds will support Academy of Hope Adult Public Charter School, an institution that supports the learning and needs of adults from 18 years of age onward.
