- MPD Seeking Suspect in 2025 Yuma Street Shooting
The Metropolitan Police Department continues to ask for the community’s assistance in identifying a suspect who shot a teenager in 2025 in Southeast.
On October 24, 2025, at approximately 4:55 p.m., Seventh District officers responded to the 800 block of Yuma Street, Southeast, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a teenage female suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded and transported the teenager to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation determined that the victim was injured while seated in a vehicle and was not the intended target of the shooting.
The suspect was captured by nearby surveillance cameras and can be seen in the photo at right and in this video.
- MPD Seeks Suspect in Business Theft and Assault
The Metropolitan Police Department is seeking the community’s assistance in locating the suspect involved in a second-degree theft and assault with a dangerous weapon (knife) that occurred in Northeast.
On Friday, July 17, 2026, at approximately 9:53 p.m., First District officers were flagged down in 1100 block of H Street, Northeast, regarding a suspect who had stolen merchandise from a business and attempted to assault employees with a knife.
The investigation revealed that the suspect entered a retail store in the 1200 block of H Street, Northeast, and took items for sale before fleeing on foot. Two victims followed the suspect and were able to retrieve some of the stolen items from the suspect. The suspect then brandished a knife and attempted to assault both victims. The victims maneuvered away and were not injured. The suspect then fled onto a Metro bus with some of the stolen property.

- MPD Investigating Southwest Pedestrian Fatality
The Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Major Crash Investigations Unit is investigating a traffic fatality involving a pedestrian that occurred in Southwest.
On Sunday, July 5, 2026, at approximately 9:00 p.m., United States Park Police (USPP) responded to the intersection of 14th Street and Independence Avenue, Southwest for the report of a crash involving a pedestrian. Officers located an adult female suffering from serious injuries in the roadway. The USPP helicopter transported the adult female pedestrian to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.
The preliminary investigation determined that the pedestrian was traveling eastbound in the north crosswalk at the intersection of 14th Street and Independence Avenue, Southwest, in a motorized electric mobility scooter. At the same time, a white 2016 F-150 was traveling westbound on Independence Avenue and turned right onto 14th Street, striking the pedestrian. The driver continued to drive until a member of the National Guard intervened and detained him until officers arrived at the scene.
The driver of the F-150, 55-year-old Michael Wayne Mills of Germantown, MD, was arrested and charged on the scene with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs and Leaving After Colliding.
On Sunday, July 12, 2026, the pedestrian succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
The decedent has been identified as 79-year-old Virginia Voight, of Palmyra, New Jersey.
Additional charges are pending further investigation.
- MPD Investigating Saratoga Avenue Homicide
The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred in Northeast.
On Saturday, July 18th, 2026, at approximately 1:22 a.m., Sixth District officers responded to the 5100 block of Sheriff Road, Northeast, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, unconscious and not breathing, suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and despite all lifesaving efforts pronounced the victim dead.
The victim has been identified as 48-year-old Earl Levi Pinkney Jr., of Capitol Heights, Maryland.
- MPD Investigating DC295 Pedestrian Fatality
The Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Major Crash Investigations Unit is investigating a traffic fatality involving a pedestrian that occurred in Southeast.
On Monday, July 13, 2026, at approximately 3:23 a.m., Sixth District officers responded to southbound DC295, just past the on-ramp from East Capitol Street, Southeast, for the report of a crash involving a pedestrian. Officers located an adult female suffering critical injuries in the roadway. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene, and after finding no signs consistent with life, they pronounced the pedestrian dead.
The preliminary investigation determined that the pedestrian exited a vehicle that was stopped in the northbound lanes of DC295. The pedestrian then ran across northbound DC295, crossed the guardrail, and entered the southbound lanes, where she was struck by a Ford Escape. The driver of the striking vehicle remained on scene.
The decedent has been identified as 18-year-old Camari Primrose, of Silver Spring, MD.
