Hill Buzz

Happy Tuesday, Capitol Hill and Ward 6… and parts of Wards 5 and 7, and okay, hello all of DC too. Do you want all our neighbors to have lovely presents under the tree this holiday season? Then go eat a brg today or tomorrow!!! eat brgz, the oddly delicious burgers with the toppings IN the burger, have partnered with Little Lights Urban Ministry in order to make happiness a reality. brgz will be donating THEIR ENTIRE PROFITS Monday December 16, Tuesday December 17 and Wednesday December 18. So for the love of all that is good, EAT A BRG. And have some fries and maybe one of their crazy milkshakes too. I need to write my first (or maybe fifth) bite about this place. Soon.

For now, on with the news:

In case you were asking yourself whether the neighborhood was cool or not, Kitsuen is opening soon and rapper Pusha-T will help open the new spot on New Year’s Eve. Honestly, we’re still stuck on the ramen-and-hookah concept, but we’re clearly not cool enough to get that. Complex

Will you look at that distinguished home over on Walter Houp Court? And oh hey, the Post linked to one of Robert’s history columns! Yay! Washington Post

Skanska is selling 99 M Street SE and Capitol Riverfront is officially the neighborhood with the lowest office vacancy in the District. This was unfathomable back when most of the neighborhood was crumbling houses and empty lots. Bisnow

And by the way, Navy Yard is getting too fancy for us. TOO FANCY. Room service in your apartment?! WHAT? Washingtonian

It seems Smith Commons memories were mixed when we first learned about their departure via Twitter. A soul food chain called Milk & Honey Cafe will soon take over the space and they’ll hold a preview party for New Year’s Eve. I will forever remember fondly the large brunch portions and the ridiculously alcoholic cocktails, but I will also remember the air conditioning cranked up to a temperature so low, I swear I could see my breath in July. Are you getting SO EXCITED about The Roost? Us, too! The newest announcement is a sushi counter called AKO by KENAKI and it sounds wonderful. After losing both Kyoto Sushi and Hikari Sushi, it’s nice to have new options– especially more refined ones. But oh, how I still lament you, Kyoto. City Paper

DC Statehood is important, but I am not sure how I feel about paying for a rap battle. The rap battle is not even what bothers me because if you watch the video, it’s entertaining. What bothers me is this: “WUSA9 discovered only $55,000 of the Statehood Grants handed out by city hall had receipts, bank statements or invoices showing how the money was spent.” Then again, I heard from a couple of you that you didn’t care too much about funding EdFest or its related swag this past weekend with your tax dollars. You may want to catch up with Councilmember Charles Allen‘s last neighborhood update… of the decade. My, how time flies.

And while we’re at it, catch up with Delegate Norton as well.
