To Do: Weekend of September 5th -8th

The DC State Fair happens Sunday on the grounds at St. Elizabeth’s

I hope your post-Labor Day transition has been graceful. Here are some ideas for entering into the busiest time of the year with ease.

Tonight, say farewell to summer with a Cal-Ital wine tasting at the Corner Store, 900 South Carolina Avenue SE. Enjoy sips of wines from Italy and California. Tickets are $25 and the proceeds will benefit  21st@21

Friday night is the Drive In at Union Market will screen Pixar’s Coco. If you haven’t seen it, bring tissues. Cars cost $10 and you can buy a ticket for your vehicle here. Walk-ins are free. The movie should start around 8 p.m.

Saturday, try some Goat Yoga at Yards Park. Vida Fitness teams up with some goats to bring the happy vibe to start the weekend. Classes begin at 8 a.m.

La Cosecha, the Latin Food hall near Union Market hosts a grand opening Saturday 11am to 7pm. There will be music and entertainment all day. The businesses setting up shop include a pupseria, a Peruvian sandwich shop, a bakery and a wine store. SO excited.

Sunday, go across the river for the DC State Fair! This year the celebration of home-grown DC Pride will take place at Gateway DC an art park and pavilion on the campus of St. Elizabeth’s from 11am to 7pm. While the deadline for registering for some of the food and compost contests has passed you can still take part in a watermelon seed spitting contest, ice cream eating, hula hooping and more. Learn all about it here.
