ANC:

Update from your ANC Commissioners

The DC flag. Photo by María Helena Carey, via Instagram.

We periodically share updates from your ANC commissioners, edited for brevity and clarity. Although these are most pertinent to particular single member districts (SMDs), we feel the information shared can be of interest to the whole Capitol Hill community. Are you an ANC commissioner who shares regular updates? Add thehillishome@gmail.com to your distribution list, please! –María Helena Carey & Kate Mcfadden

From Mark Eckenwiler, ANC 6C04 Commissioner

Neighbors,

A further update: the Logan School project is now a formal application to the Historic Preservation Review Board (HPRB). FYI,

  • The materials are posted on the HPRB case site.
  • ANC 6C’s planning & zoning committee (PZE) will review and vote on the application next week. The PZE meets at the NE Library on Wednesday, May 1 at 6:30 pm.
  • The full ANC will consider and vote on the application one week later (May 8 @ Heritage Foundation, 7 pm).

From Denise Krepp, ANC6B10 Commissioner

Good afternoon.  The following is a quick update on:

  • Eastern High School Band
  • Bike Safety
  • Parking Enforcement
  • Sexual Harassment
  • Crime
  • Reservation 13

Eastern High School Band

The Eastern High School band received a $20,000 Arnold F. Keller Jr. grant this month from the Capitol Hill Community Foundation (CHCF).  More information about the grant and ways to support the Eastern High School band can be found in the Hill Rag – https://hillrag.com/2019/04/12/keller-grant-helps-equip-the-eastern-high-school-band/.  Sharing because like many of you I played in a high school band and the woodwind section is the best!

Bike Safety

Capitol Hill dad Dave Salovesh died while biking on Friday.  Sharing essay about Dave.  It was written by former ANC6B10 resident Brian McEntee – https://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/columns/gear-prudence/article/21065278/dave-salovesh-19652019.  Councilmember Allen announced today that he is introducing legislation that will make Florida Ave safer for everyone.  Please encourage your friends in others part of the city to support it.

Parking EnforcementThe lack of parking enforcement in Hill East continues to be a problem.  I’m working with other ANC6B Commissioners to encourage DPW and EventsDC to enter into an agreement wherein DPW will provide additional parking enforcement officers during RFK Stadium and Armory events.  More details forthcoming.

Sexual Harassment
ANC6B sent a letter to the DC Chief Financial Officer encouraging him to start tracking the DC tax dollars used to pay sexual harassment agreements involving DC agency employees.  The CFO responded that he does have visibility on the issue and that we should instead contact AG Racine.  The DC Auditor announced yesterday that she will audit DC agencies for this information.  The audits are directly linked to the DC CFO’s failure to track the info.  See attached letters.

Crime
There have been several incidents of crime in ANC6B10 in the past couple of weeks.  These incidents include theft and robbery.  Detective Heithoff has the lead for the theft of the bike that occurred on April 15th.  If you have videos of the nearby area, please send them to him.  His email address is Paul.Heithoff@dc.gov.  Videos related to the other crimes should be sent to Lt Damion Taylor.  His email address is Damion.Taylor@dc.gov

April 21st – MPD officers were called to the 100 block of 19th Street SE for suspicious person.  They arrested three individuals (2 juveniles and one adult) for attempting to break into a home.  The adult also had an illegal firearm.  I’ve notified DOJ that I will be submitting a community impact statement for the case.

Reservation 13
Starting last week, DDOT will have a Public Space Inspections and Enforcement Officer on-site who will document any construction vehicles deviating from the approved plan and who is authorized to issue appropriate violations.  Additionally, the development team will have a flagger stationed at 18th and D Street SE.
