We periodically share updates from your ANC commissioners. Although these are most pertinent to particular single member districts (SMDs), we feel the information shared can be of interest to the whole Capitol Hill community. Update from Amber Gove, ANC6A04

Dear Neighbors,

Thanks to all of you who voted last week. I’m grateful to have received your votes and look forward to continuing to serve our community as your Commissioner.

Gun Violence

Our recent meeting was standing room only, as MPD Commanders Kane and Fitzgerald updated the community on the recent uptick in gun violence in our neighborhood. Councilmember Charles Allen highlighted the work he has led on violence prevention and encouraged everyone to take a look at the city’s security camera rebate program. Details here.

Neighbor Larry Janezich summarized the meeting in his Capitol Hill Corner post.  Looking for a way to take action? Consider joining our local chapter of Moms Demand Action.

Leaves and Pumpkins

If you, like me, did not get a flyer from DPW this fall, then this notice is for you. We learned at our ANC meeting on Thursday that our area is slated for leaf pick up this week.  Please get those leaves raked into your tree box today or tomorrow for pick up through Saturday Nov 17. Details linked/pas

Please get those leaves raked into your tree box today or tomorrow for pick up through Saturday Nov 17. Details linked/pasted below. Rake leaves into your treebox space the Sunday before your scheduled collection week. Please – leaves only! Tree limbs, bricks, dirt, rocks, etc., will damage the equipment and delay collections.

Prevent fires, parking problems and flooding by placing leaves in the treebox space, not in the street. When it rains, leaves will clog storm drains causing flooding and polluting our waterways.

Also, drop off your pumpkins for composting at Eastern Market (in front of Rumsey Pool) from 9-1 on Saturdays. They take both  intact and mushy pumpkins (as well as all other household compost-worthy food waste).  Details here: https://dpw.dc.gov/foodwastedropoff

ANC Committees Need You

Our neighborhood depends on volunteers like you to keep it going. If you are looking for a way to get involved, please consider attending and joining one of our four committees: Transportation and Public Space, Alcohol and Beverage Licensing, Community Outreach or Economic Development and Zoning.

As always, feel free to share this update with neighbors and email me at AmberANC6A@gmail.com if you’d like to be added/removed from my list.
