A big thank-you to Barred in DC for this information: Taco City DC is now open next door to Las Placitas, at 1102 8th Street SE. The space, which has gone through several iterations of cuisines –Pakistani, Peruvian, Middle Eastern and American– and had been home to Levis Port Café at some point– will now offer Mexican foods such as authentic tacos, torts, small plates, mole poblano and other dishes. Owners Ferrufino Francisco and Juan Jiménez bring impressive resumes– Jiménez boasts places like Café Atlántico and Oyamel among his past experience; Francisco was in charge of the kitchen at Meridian Pint and he’s a board member of the Carlos Rosario bilingual school culinary department.

While they wait for their full tavern license, stop by and try the tacos and other antojitos. Their hours of operation for now are as follows:

Monday-Friday: 11 a.m.-10 p.m.

Saturday-Sunday: 4 p.m.-10 p.m.

Looks like those of you carting children to soccer practice at the Marine Barracks just had dinner figured out for you a couple nights a week.
