The Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington will be conducting several free vision screenings for youth and adults September 16-18, 2018. The screenings will take place at 233 Massachusetts Avenue, NE and they are as follows:
Youth screening: Sunday, September 16, 12-5 p.m.
For ages 3-18. Ophthalmologists will be on hand to test children for amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (crossed eyes) and distance acuity. Free prescription eyeglasses will be provided at this event.
Adult screening: Sunday, September 16, 12-5 p.m., Monday, September 17 and Tuesday, September 18, 3-7 p.m.
Glaucoma screening. This screening is open to anyone who wants to check their vision, but there are certain populations that are at higher risk and should take advantage of this offer:
• African Americans over age 40
• Everyone over age 60, especially Hispanics
• People with a family history of glaucoma
• Those with other health conditions, such as diabetes
