ORCHID: PopVille reports that Senart’s will reopen as ORCHID. In the original post, it states that it will be “DC’s newest gay bar;” however, I spoke to James Abbot, marketing director for Hill Restaurant Group, and he mentioned that ORCHID will be more of a LGBT-concept place that welcomes the community. ORCHID will be on soft opening next week, with a special invitation-only soft-open this Wednesday, May 16. The place will have an Art Deco vibe inside and there will be local artists featured on the walls. There will also be at least a couple of “architectural surprises.” (I heard a rumor that the handles in the bathroom might be “anatomically correct” but I didn’t get to see much.) It will be great to see a LGBT-oriented bar in an area that recently lost Phase I, just across the street. Phase I was not just a lesbian bar: It was an institution –the oldest operating LGBT bar in the DC area and around since 1970.

SEPHORA: In news that will gladden the hearts and faces of all who love makeup, alert reader and twitter use Julie Moeller spotted actual SEPHORA signage going up last night. Tweet below:
