Your local venues are bringing you emo-rock, futuristic pop and an acoustic set from an 80s living legend to round out the first month of 2018!

On The Hill:

The metalheads definitely get left out of the normal live music loop sometimes, so Washington DC-based Genocide Pact has you covered! This trio takes the chaos of the District to a whole new level with their “pulverizing,” “relentless” death metal. The band toured the country extensively upon the release of their eagerly-awaited debut full-length and even made an appearance at Maryland Deathfest. Their sophomore album, Order of Torment, is set to release on February 2, which also happens to be the day of the show at the Rock & Roll Hotel. Tickets for the album release show can be found here.

Clear pop-punk, emo, and post-hardcore influences make up the bones of Tiny Moving Parts, the three-piece family band out of Minnesota. They are back with more addicting jams, ready to share them with you! The band’s honest, emotional and life-inspired lyrics are backed by hard-hitting instrumentals. TMP’s new album, Swell, will be released this Friday on Triple Crown Records. Mom Jeans and Oso Oso will open the show. Check out Tiny Moving Parts at the Rock & Roll Hotel on February 7. Around DC:

Overcoats, a NYC duo fueled by pure girl power, has been steadily gaining momentum since the release their debut album. YOUNG sparked an abundance of sold-out shows and high praise from Billboard. I caught up with the band over email as they headed out on tour in support of Tennis. It’s clear that the self-proclaimed “folk electronic honey girl power” duo has an earnest collaborative process with both girls pulling from similar musical influences to create their own take on electronic-pop. The Staves, Amy Winehouse, and Joni Mitchell are high on their list of dream collaborations. Having only been around a few years, the duo mentions how incredible it is to meet fans from around the country, who scream the lyrics of their songs back to them. So go learn some Overcoats lyrics and see the duo supporting Tennis at the 9:30 Club on January 24. Tickets are available here.

Canada’s own Belle Game has been gaining recognition for their “crush pop” and big choruses for a while, and their fanbase expanded once again with the release of their sophomore LP, Fear/Nothing, last September. Frontwoman Andrea Lo’s vocals are dreamy yet expansive: they work perfectly alongside the drums that immediately capture the attention of any listener. The release of Fear/Nothing comes after their critically acclaimed debut LP, Ritual Tradition Habit, which received rave reviews from Pitchfork and Rolling Stone Magazine. Don’t miss Belle Game on January 27 at Songbyrd Music House. Get your tickets here.

If you’re looking for a show that combines genres like never before, Mega Bog is for you. Erin Birgy, the mind behind Mega Bog, creates incredible music that is hard to define. The ethereal, guitar-heavy tunes mix nostalgic lounge music with a futuristic jazz-influence. The 2017 album, Happy Together, received critical acclaim from the likes of NPR and Pitchfork. Mega Bog will be supporting Destroyer, whose folk/pop approach resembles early David Bowie, at Black Cat on January 28. Buy tickets now.

Now is your chance to see Brooklyn-born superstar Pat Benatar live and in person! This lady has seriously done it all since her debut album in 1979 — she’s a singer, songwriter and actress with four Grammys, two multi-platinum albums, five platinum albums, three gold albums, and multiple top ten hits such as “Hit Me with Your Best Shot” and “Love Is a Battlefield.” Fans come together for a super 80s throwback with “A Very Intimate Acoustic Evening” with Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo. Don’t pass up this show on February 5 at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA. Get your tickets now!
