The Set List: SHAED Interview

The DC-based trio known as SHAED (pronounced “shade”) artfully combines electronica and pop into a sound that you won’t soon forget. Their mix of bright, groovy, and retro beats coupled with incredibly smooth vocals will immediately capture your attention. The trio is comprised of twin brother producers/multi-instrumentalists Max and Spencer Ernst, and Chelsea Lee, who lends her powerhouse vocals to SHAED as the lead singer.

The Set List recently caught up with Chelsea over email to chat about the DC scene’s influence and the band’s most recent release.

It’s clear that the District holds a special place in the heart of SHAED. The trio came together in March of 2016 after they met at a local high school. According to Chelsea, the supportive environment that comes from playing nearly every local venue helped the band grow. “It’s a privilege to be in a city that supports local artists – there is a great artist community here.” However, the 9:30 Club still tops her list as the best DC venue both to perform and to attend a live show.

The band embraced this local artist vibe by creating their most recent release, the Just Wanna See EP, in their own home studio with all the production magic happening right in their basement.

SHAED is currently on tour in support of their EP and are working on their debut full-length release. The band will also be co-headlining alongside Foreign Air at this show.

The band has recently toured with Bishop Briggs, Marian Hill, VERITE, and Sir Sly. This show is perfect for fans of Phantogram, Alt-J, and Sylvan Esso.

The electro-pop trio returns to The Rock & Roll Hotel on Friday, December 8. Don’t miss your chance to see these hometown heroes! Get your tickets now!
