The Set List: Fall Classic and Young Futura Preview

Since 2014, the All Things Go Fall Classic has been bringing emerging and established acts to the stage at DC’s historic Union Market and has steadily expanded to a three-day music festival. The event also features local food vendors and interactive features for everyone to enjoy. This weekend, October 6-8, local acts such as Young Futura, Lightwaves, and Foreign Air will perform alongside headliners like Galantis, Bleachers, and Foster the People.

The Set List caught up with the guys of Young Futura and Lightwaves via email to discuss their influences and beginnings.

Young Futura

Young Futura is comprised of DC rapper Beau Young Prince and French DJ/Producer Futura, the latter of which boasts collaborations with the likes of 50 Cent, OK GO, and more. Their single “We Get Lit” has been streamed more than 1 million times on Spotify. Their Patience EP is a blend of dance, hip-hop, and future bass that is sure to get you moving.

It’s clear that this duo’s distinctive music pulls from a number of different influences, namely their respective cities and backgrounds. Beau Young Prince cites DC as the source of his global perspective. “This is reflected in how I approach music, and how YF [Young Futura] mixes up different genres with hip-hop and dance music.” As for Futura, he finds inspiration in his travels between LA, New York, and France to bring fresh, new ideas to the table.

This duo is a global collaboration that was meant to be. Their instant chemistry was an added bonus that sprang from mutual admiration: Both guys thought the other was making great music and wanted to be involved. In the words of Futura, the future music of the duo is “about to bring that fire.” According to Beau Young Prince, “It’s gonna be groovy.”

Catch Young Futura’s set at Union Market on at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 8.

Lightwaves

If you are a fan of DJs, you’re in luck! DC-based Lightwaves will be DJing all three days of the festival. Jan Rosenfeld is the mastermind singer, producer, and guitarist behind Lightwaves. Though Rosenfeld started out as a solo electronic artist, he has also teamed up with three other DJs in the local scene to create a more live, rock-influenced sound. Lightwaves takes influence from artists like MUNA and The 1975, and even opened up for Madeon right here in DC a while back!
