Volunteering & Giving:

Walking Town DC Needs Volunteers

Cultural DC’s Walking Town DC is coming to a historic, walkable place near you starting September 16. You can sign up for the many tours in our neighborhood and around town by checking out their calendar, which you can find here. When you see what you want, scroll down the page and select it from the list. (Warning: Slightly clunky website. If you want a better one, donate to these fine folks.)

Walking Town DC is also looking for volunteers for each tour. You can help people find their group and assist the tour guides as they see fit. Volunteers must attend an information session beforehand. These take place Wednesday September 6 (today) and September 12. They will take place at different locations, depending on which tour you want to attend. If you would like to volunteer, drop Cultural Tourism DC a line at  Volunteer@CulturalTourismDC.org or give them a call at (202) 661-7581.

Last year I attended the Frederick Law Olmsted tour of the Capitol grounds and I had a great time. The subject was fascinating to me as I love both architecture, landscape architecture and gardening. Our tour guide, Steve Livengood, was witty, funny and very engaging. It was a gentle walk and the path we followed had no stairs or steps, so I highly recommend you join even if you have mobility problems.
