The Tune Inn and Scorched Souls Motorcycle Club are hosting a fundraiser for firefighter Dane Smothers tomorrow, Wednesday, August 9, from 8 a.m. until noon. The fundraiser asks for a $20 donation which will all go to cover hospital costs. The Tune Inn will have drink and breakfast specials.
Late last Wednesday night, August 2nd, a two-alarm fire tore through 809 F Street NE. In addition to nearly destroying the home of a long-time resident, it nearly cost firefighter Dane Smothers his life. At the staging scene, Smothers was hit by a ladder truck. His injuries were severe and he is in intensive care at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.
According to WUSA, Smothers had joined Engine No. 3, 439 New Jersey Ave NW, three months ago.
