Equal Pay Day at Summit to Soul & Around the Hill

Happy (?) Equal Pay Day, everyone. This year, April 4 is the day of the year where wages for women catch up symbolically to those of men. In other words, our year has to be this much longer for us to make the wages a man would earn through the end of the year. (94 days?!) This short explainer from NBC News is a good way to get initiated.

Help bring awareness to this disparity today with several special events:

  • Do you hate that, on average, women get paid 20% less than men do? Today, get a 20% discount if you shop at woman-centric fitness hub Summit to Soul. (p.s. Try the All Good goop!)
  • Many businesses around the Hill and beyond are offering a 20% discount. You can access the full list by visiting https://leanin.org/equalpay and select Washington, D.C. from the menu. In our neighborhood, you can visit Acqua Al 2, Biker BarreDCanter Wines, Finn MacCool’s, Scarlet Oak and Wisdom and drink up to women. (Thank you to CHAMPS for helping us complete our local list.)
  • You can also order a bouquet for the woman in your life who deserves to be paid more from Urban Stems, or you can get her a DC DREAMER DOER t-shirt from District of Clothing if she doesn’t do the whole flowers thing.
  • Make sure you go to Summit to Soul at around 3 p.m. and listen to Congresswoman Lois Frankel (D-FL) speak about the need to close the wage gap. If you cannot make it, Congresswoman Frankel’s office will be broadcasting the event on Facebook Live.
  • Finally, if you are on social media, make sure you share or click on #20PercentCounts for news, coverage and, well… hot takes too. #mansplainaway
