Inauguration Day is nine days away and there is no escaping it unless you are wisely skipping town. My own plans to get out of here have been thwarted and so I’ll be battening down the hatches and staying put. Though I admit wishing I had actual hatches to batten down, because this would mean I’d be in a boat and I’d sail far away from here for a couple of days, but I digress.
I’m not the only one holding down the proverbial fort in our beloved not-a-swamp: Local businesses need to stay open to thrive, and a busy weekend is good for the till and for the economy. Many local businesses, mostly restaurants but also a family entertainment place and a beauty salon, are coming together to provide service with a smile and to give back to the community. It’s no secret that as we welcome a new Commander-in-Chief to Washington, we are aware that his policies may affect the LGBTQI community, the environment, people who have a need for family control options, and many minorities. All In Service , who are “a team of people from the hospitality community… making a statement of inclusion and love for community,” will donate part of the weekend’s proceeds to organizations who support these vulnerable groups. Their list is constantly being updated, so make sure you check often. Below, I have included a list of the businesses closest to our area that are participating.
