Best wishes for 2017

By Grace Steckler, owner, Saving Grace Petcare

As the 2016 comes to a close, we wish you and yours the very best in the coming year.

We would also like to appreciate our wonderful staff with our own version of So God Made A Dog.

“And on the 8th day, God looked down on his planned paradise and said, I need a caretaker.” So God made a pet sitter.

God said, I need somebody willing to get up early, visit a diabetic cat, check on a neighbor’s house, spend all afternoon walking dogs, check the diabetic cat again, eat supper and then go out and stay overnight with a lonely dog.

So God made a pet sitter.

I need somebody with arms strong enough to leash up a group of boisterous canines and yet gentle enough to play with a newly-adopted puppy in the yard.

Somebody to wrestle a stray chicken bone from a dog’s mouth, tame alarm systems in 10 different homes, and make due with a granola bar for lunch since there is no time to stop and eat properly.

So God made a pet sitter.

God said, I need somebody both solar-powered and waterproof, willing to brave weather conditions from blizzards, to cold spring rain, to code-red summer days. Someone who can witness a mugging and stop to help the victim, who can call 911 when the branch falls in the street and who notices the guy casing the cars in the parking lot and calls the police. Someone who can jimmy a lock, run several blocks to retrieve a dog who has slipped his collar and still carry on with their day.

And who, at Thanksgiving and Christmas will bring comfort and joy to ten cats and five dogs every day, and get up the next day and do it all over again.

So God made a pet sitter.

Someone who will, not mind when a silly dog wiggles into her sleeping bag, scour the neighborhood for a missing pet, posting flyers on every telephone pole in a 20 block radius, and notice the warning signs of illness and contact those who can help.

Someone who will help an aging dog up and down the front steps to make sure they get their pee break, who will regularly collect towels and blankets for the local shelter, drop them off and spend some time with the pets waiting for their forever homes.

And so God made Saving Grace petcare providers.”

We hope to see you, and all our furry, finned and feathered friends in 2017.

Happy New Year!
