ANC:

Crime Update from Kirsten Oldenburg

We periodically share updates and information of interest to the Capitol Hill Community. Kirsten Oldenburg is the ANC commissioner for 6B04, covering the neighborhood around Eastern Market and Barracks Row. The crime statistics are noteworthy to the whole community and Ward 6 overall. –MHC

The table of violent crimes on SE Capitol Hill (Click here to see the Excel file: Aug 2016) shows that August was a bit quieter than normal. This can probably be attributed to a decline in such crimes in PSA 108 where only 2 were reported (see 108 in August tab) vs. 9 in July.  [Remember, VCs = sex abuse+robbery+assault reports.]  For PSA 106, there were 4 VCs reported and in PSA 107, 11.  Five of these are clustered along/near Pennsylvania Avenue SE Note that not all the PSA VCs are counted in my SE Capitol Hill table since portions of all 3 PSAs lie outside ANC6B, which is my proxy for SE Capitol Hill.

The PSA 106 total for August (42 reports) includes 4 robberies (2 with guns), 3 burglaries, 25 thefts, 6 thefts from auto and 4 stolen autos.  This is a decline from July, when there were 58 crimes reported among which were a total of 37 thefts.  Within PSA 107 in August, there were a sex abuse, 9 robberies (4 with guns), 1 assault, 3 burglaries, 70 thefts, 23 thefts from auto, and 4 stolen autos for a total of 111 reports.  This compares with a total of 99 reports in July. An increase in thefts in August could explain that overall increase.  In PSA 108, there were 2 robberies, 3 burglaries, 30 thefts, 12 thefts from auto, and 6 stolen autos for an August total of 53, slightly up from 47 in July.

Details for all the PSA 106, PSA 107, and ANC6B crime reports are listed in separate tabs on the attached excel file.  The MPD 1D Yahoo Group is where you will find narratives for specific crimes and arrests.  If what you want to know is not there, ask MPD to provide it.
