Travel to cities and towns anyplace but DC you’d be hard to pressed as many schools in 2 square miles as you do on Capitol Hill. Barraged with invitations to attend fundraisers to support local children, you think “How do I choose?!?” Well, the three campuses that comprise the Capitol Hill Cluster School educate more than 1,100 Capitol Hill students, so money spent on the 2016 Cluster Rocks! Gala & Auction makes a difference to lots of kids.
A $50 ticket to the auction on Friday, March 11, 7-10 p.m., at the Atlas Performing Arts Center promises dinner from Red Rocks, an open beer and wine bar donated by Trusty’s and the Wine Institute, and lots of dancing. Proceeds from all that fun extra supports literacy advancement, expanding academic offerings and library resources, playground amenities, and support for music, theatre and visual arts programs for the students attending Peabody Primary, Watkins Elementary, and Stuart-Hobson Middle School
The auction is of the silent variety and local business owners know their money goes a long way when they support our local schools. You’ll find gift cards and certificates for dozens of restaurants and businesses, box seats for sporting events, stays in vacation houses in Ocean City, Puerto Rico and Maine, passes to private film screenings and Disney, brewery tours, cases of wine. You can even bid on lunch in the US Capitol Members’ Dining Room with Congressman Joe Kennedy III and a NPR “Tiny Desk” concert of your choice followed by a personal tour of NPR.
If you can’t attend the gala see the auction website and register to bid to join the fun online. Check back regularly as new items will be added each day, including a number of “Buy It Now” bargains.
