Results Gym Closes [Updated: Opening Thursday]

Updated March 16 1pm: Results will be reopening at 5am on Thursday, March 17 under new ownership and the same staff. The following message was sent to membership today.

As of today, Results Gym DC (RGDC) assumed the management of Results the Gym. Please know that the club will be open on the regular schedule, effective Thursday, March 17, and the change in management will not affect your membership privileges in any way. We will honor all membership commitments made by the previous management, and we will deliver excellent quality of service during the transition.

While there will be continuity in the staff and programs, our greatest priority is member experience, so you will soon see improvement in the club, including new equipment and better value for membership. RGDC directors have over 50 years experience operating first class clubs in the Washington area, and we are excited to bring our vision to Capitol Hill. Please contact us at resultsdcreopening@gmail.com with your feedback, questions, and ideas for how we can best serve you.
Sincerely,

Cwi Steiman
Management/Partner

Several helpful readers (thank you, readers!) let us know that they received an email at 10 pm last night, 3/15/16, from Results management. The email read as follows:

During the past six months, Results Gym has faced growing economic challenges to its continued operations including extreme pressures arising out of the uneconomic lease for its space on G Street. While management has worked diligently to address those challenges, it was unable to obtain terms from its landlord that would permit it to continue operating and the landlord has proceeded with eviction.

In light of this, we regret to inform you that Results Gym will discontinue operations effective March 15, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. At present, we do not know how Results Gym’s remaining assets will be allocated between its secured and unsecured creditors. As that process plays out, we hope to provide you with additional information. Please submit all inquiries to: resultsclosing2016@gmail.com

Reader Angie Van Berkel, who shared the email with us, drove over to the G Street building, 315 G Street SE, and when she arrived, at around 10:15 pm,

the doors were locked and their email message was taped to the door. Several employees and other members showed up and the employees said they had not received an email letting them know Results was closing and they were out of a job. Results employed about 30 people. Around 10:40, the staff said that Results had finally sent them an email, saying the same message but that they would get paid through March 18 2016 and “good luck with your future endeavors.”

Results Gym, which formerly had several branches but had pared down to the Capitol Hill branch, was a mainstay in the Capitol Hill community: In other words, pretty much everyone has dropped at least one bead of sweat at the beautifully renovated former schoolhouse. In a 2009 Washington City Paper article, Housing Complex reporter Ruth Samuelson outlined a bitter fight for space for what was then the Dupont circle Results the Gym location; she also chronicled the rivalry between the gym owners, who started off as business partners first. Since its opening in the fall of 2014, Vida Fitness at Navy Yard has become a fitness option with parking –which in terms of Capitol Hill, can be a make-or-break proposition. Perry Stein’s grueling chronicle of the fitness boom in the District, despite the so-called “yoga tax” from 2014 will also shed light on why Results may have shut its doors.

One of Results Gym’s trainers was the man in a local story about a murder-suicide back in November 2015.

Sorry for Results and the employees. Perhaps new management can reopen and hire many of them.

this event is more complicated than the information above. new management has stepped in, and there has to be some business story behind the scenes on today’s event.

What does the murder/suicide have to do with Results closing?

  4. Dare Johnson Wenzler says:

Sounds like the “new” owner was/is affiliated with Sport and Health clubs … also there was an old article I found online about the whole Results/Vida controversy that mentions him being involved with Results in some way for quite some time. I agree with cs hunley that there is some business backstory to it
