On March 13th, 2013, a mysterious fire burned down Don and Tracy Fox’s house at 1214 Constitution Ave NE, a little more than 3 years after they purchased it to enjoy city living as empty-nesters after 27 years in Bethesda. Officially of undetermined cause, it started underneath the stairs, with the fire marshall speculating that this was the “1 in 10,000 cases” where a fluorescent ballast exploded and caught fire. They underwent a meticulous 11 month reconstruction project with fire restoration specialist Jenkins Construction, realizing this was the perfect opportunity to make it their “forever” house, while a Korean acquaintance informed them that a house fire was a good sign… that all evil spirits had been forever burned out of the property.
