Hey there, new moms! Are you looking for workout buddies and fellow moms to cry with because being a mom is so damn hard oh god just stop fighting you two a lot harder than anyone could have ever told you it would be? Fear not!
FIT4MOM has recently opened in Capitol Hill and there is a class from among their listed offerings that will help you get your body in shape postpartum. Dads and caregivers are also welcome: All you need is a stroller with an occupant and the desire to work out! FIT4MOM opened in our area on September 19 (at Canal Park) and September 22 (at Union Market) and they just posted winter hours. The indoor locales make it easier for parents to work out during the cold winter months.
If you have an older child (i.e. no stroller), there is good news. According to Michelle Cain, the mom behind the Capitol Hill area franchise, “Body Back is another FIT4MOM program but its moms-only and is a little more intense. It also includes a nutritional coaching component. I am hoping to start Body Back classes next summer.”
Michelle also tells me that in addition to providing workouts, fun, and friendship, FIT4MOM also organizes moms’ nights out and community service opportunities. Pretty cool!
From their own information:
Stroller Strides is a total fitness program for new moms that they can do with their babies. It includes power walking and intervals of body toning using exercise tubing and the stroller. Taught by nationally certified instructors, it’s a great workout for any level of exerciser. In 60 minutes, you will get a total body workout improving your cardiovascular endurance, your strength and your flexibility. The classes are equally beneficial for babies as instructors will weave songs through the workout and incorporate activities to make it fun.
