ANC:

Meet the Candidates: Gerald (Jerry) Sroufe ANC 6B02

We have offered to post brief statements from all of the ANC candidates running for seats on Capitol Hill and the surrounding neighborhoods that we cover here on The Hill is Home.  These statements are not endorsements and have been posted exactly as submitted by the candidates.

sroufeAs ANC 6B02 Commissioner, I pledge to. . . .

  • Use my education experience to pursue collaborations among city agencies and community groups to provide more and better middle-school opportunities on Capitol Hill.
  • Preserve Eastern Market as a food market, through the ANC Commissioner’s seat on the Eastern Market Community Advisory Committee.
  • Seek constructive solutions to transportation and parking problems, as well as a permanent solution to the current rodent infestation, continuing the current ANC’s focus on these efforts.
  • Diligently enforce zoning and licensing on Capitol Hill.

In addition, as an ongoing member of the Hine Community Advisory Committee, I will continue working to mitigate the impact of project construction on the neighborhood.

I am . . .

  • Committed to Capitol Hill – for “the long term” — Mary Ann and I have owned our home at 129 6th SE since 1969 and have selected sites in Congressional Cemetery.
  • Involved in the community: I co-chair the Eastern Market Metro Community Association: I am active in the work projects of the Presbyterian Church and the Capitol Hill Garden Club.
  • A life-long educator: Currently director of government relations for the American Educational Research Association, I have 20 years’ experience as a school teacher, university professor and university administrator.
  • Active, engaged, curious: My recreations are running in the neighborhood, E-street Cinema, book group, WNO, and the Nationals.

Being an ANC Commissioner is a wonderful opportunity to serve the community by addressing both the large issues and also the small things that affect the quality of our daily life.
