Ponder this question as you go through your morning or afternoon commute: do you truly know your neighbors?

Here on the Hill, we have all kinds of people comprising our village. We have neighbors who bike and neighbors who parent; young, transient neighbors and young, invested neighbors; we have some puissant neighbors, too.

Some neighbors are simply those who need us.

The Brethren Nutrition Program is a soup kitchen run out of the Washington City Church of the Brethren, located at 337 North Carolina Avenue SE, at the corner of 4th and North Carolina. The BNP’s mission is to help feed hungry neighbors, regardless of housing status, age, race, religious beliefs, or financial situation. The kitchen at BNP has seen its fair share of prosperous and dry times, and they need help to give back.

The kitchen is seeking volunteers to cover the food preparation shift from 10:00 am to 12 noon, and the serving and clean-up shift, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm. Volunteers are welcome to work both shifts if they so desire.

For more information, please contact Carolyn Nestman at bnp@washingtoncitycob.org.
