Not just Cupcakes at the Cafe… Photo by Mr. T in DC via Flickr

At the pace with which eateries and bars open on Capitol Hill (and the neighborhood’s  ever-reaching boundaries), you’d think no one has ever eaten before.  Not that I’m complaining at all: it’s great to have options, and good options at that.  So what’s new and noteworthy this week?  Read on.

  • We stumbled onto the owners of Curbside Cupcakes entertaining folks in their future café location at 15th and C Streets SE this weekend (formerly Crepes on the Corner).  We can expect a slow roll-out for the yet-to-be-named café, but we know that around the beginning of October we should see operating hours on weekday mornings, and the hours will slowly increase as they build capacity and a following.  The kitchens for all of the Curbside empire will move to this location, but we were told this will not just be a place to buy a cupcake.  Mornings will feature good coffee (possibly from local roaster Vigilante) and grab-and-go type pastries.  Eventually the café will build a menu to include sandwiches and soups (and perhaps a few cupcakes too).
  • H Street NE now has another pizza option as Red Rocks Pizzeria opened last Wednesday.  This fourth location of the local chain offers three floors of seating and an expanded menu beyond wood-fired pizzas.
  • If you like the Indigo Indian food cart at Eastern Market on the weekends, you can now enjoy the food all week long as a new bricks-and-mortar location has opened at 243 K Street NE (between H Street and Union Market – it’s becoming like a food crawl in that area).  The menu will rotate seasonal specialties, and the location will deliver.
