Punk Meets Classical-Newspeak performs at the Atlas Friday night.

This weekend offers us many opportunities to get out an support our friends at Fragers while having fun. So let’s get to it.

Tonight at the Corner Store Roosevelt Dime is going to have folks on their feet dancing. The Brooklyn band, described as part Dixieland and part blues. The concert begins at 8pm. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. More information can be found here.

Friday evening the DC Rollergirls and The Fridge are hosting a benefit concert on behalf of Fragers.  Doors open at 6:30pm.  The lineup includes The Throckmortens, The NativeMakers and Rodney Henry of The Glenmont Popes. Tickets are $20. Click here to purchase tickets online or purchase at the door.  All ticket sales from the event will be donated to the Fragers Fund set up by The Capitol Hill Community Foundation.  The event is sponsored by DC Brau Brewing Company, Dangerously Delicious Pies and Quicksilver Productions.

You can also support Frager while eating great food at Al Fresco for Fragers taking place from 6pm to 8pm at Eastern Market beneath the farmer’s line shed. Over a dozen noted neighborhood restaurants and popular food purveyors will serve up great culinary treats – the list includes Acqua al Due, Bowers Fancy Dairy Products, Boxcar Tavern, Canales Delicatessen, Fine Sweet Shop, Market Lunch, Market Poultry, Montmarte, Pitango Gelato, Puddin’ Po Boy, Seventh Hill Pizza, Silver Spork, Tortilla Café, Tunnicliff’s Tavern and Union Meat Company.  Tickets, which are two for $6, can be purchased at the event; one ticket will equate to a “taste” from a vendor’s table and part of the sale of each ticket will go to the Frager’s Fund, managed by the Capitol Hill Community Foundation. Guests will also have the opportunity to participate in a raffle for Eastern Market artisan offerings.  If you are interested in volunteering at the event  send an email to annettenielsen@mac.com.

H Street’s (actually DC’s) hottest chef, Erik Bruner-Tang of Toki Underground is taking over the Atlas Performing Arts Center’s cafe Friday night at what they are calling the Toki Takeover. Instead of the usual theatre treats, nuts and candy bars, arts lovers can enjoys some Dan Dan Noodles and Sausage on a Stick washed down with a few Asian beers and Saki in a Can. The dishes are all moderately priced. The takeover begins at 6:30 and will last until they sell their last noodle bowl.

Hopefully folks will stay for the “punk meets classical” sound of the Newspeak Ensemble. Founded by David T. Little, the group has a decidedly political focus. The musicians are classically trained but many have done some time in rock bands. The concert begins at 8pm and tickets are available here.

Saturday night head over to H Street and recharge your love for iambic pentameter and young but foolish love. The small theatre company Brave Spirits Theatre is putting on a charming production of Romeo and Juliet at the Atlas. Yes,  you know how it ends but that is not the point. Tickets are $15/$10 students and are available here.

Sunday evening Chicago-based singer-songwriter Jennifer Hall performs at the Hill Center. Citing a diverse array of influences such as The Black Keys, Patsy Cline, Rufus Wainwright, Jeff Buckley, Wilco and Ella Fitzgerald her sound can’t be pinned down but its always sincere. The concert begins at 7pm. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. More information can be found here.
