The Nats are coming back into town and the calendar keeps insisting it, so I guess it’s Spring.  Many are celebrating holidays this week so Happy Pesach/Easter.  Enjoy the jelly beans or macaroons, (or both because a sweet tooth doesn’t care.)

Tonight at the Folger Shakespeare Libray the PEN/Faulkner series continues with a discussion with three female authors of historical, literary fiction. Geraldine Brooks (Caleb’s Crossing)Julie Otsuka (The Buddha in the Attic) and Dolen Perkins-Valdez (Wench) will discuss these novels which are all based on historical truth. The event begins at 7:30pm and tickets are $15. More information can be found here.

The the Hill Center’s Talk of the Hill series with journalist and Hill resident Bill Press continues Thursday evening. This time former Connecticut Senator Chris Dodd is the guest. Dodd is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the Motion Picture Association of America. Pretty sure Oscar talk will dominate the evening. If you go be sure to thank him for that sledding-on-the-actual-Hill dispensation he lobbied for during Snomaggedan.  The event begins at 7pm and tickets are free but registration is recommended.

Friday the Nationals are back and they play an exhibition game against the Yankees at 2:05 pm. Tickets are still available here.

Friday evening the H Street Country Club opens their new roofdeck.  In true Joe Englert style a roof deck is not just a roof deck. Keeping with the country club theme, the roof deck evokes the outdoor offerings such as tennis and poolside lounging. There are even a pair of lifeguard chairs from Bethany Beach.

Saturday afternoon from 1pm -5pm is the closing party for the Hello, My Name Is exhibit at The Fridge. The exhibit, a 60 artist international graffiti show. Check it out before it closes.

Sunday is Easter, a time for bonnets and brunch, looks like it might rain so you may want to rethink the picnic idea.

That evening at the Rock and Roll Hotel, is L’il Dude Big Heart – A Benefit for the Aiden Rivera-Schaeff Foundation.  Aiden Rivera-Schaeff was a transgendered boy who attended Bethesda Chevy Chase High School and committed suicide in 2010. The Foundation raises money to reduce bullying of GLBT youth. Tickets are $10 and the doors open at 6:30pm.

Monday is the Nationals’ opening day! Kyra has been waiting so patiently! Everyone is skipping work so you might as well join them. Afterwards keep the party going over at the Hill Center with a Free Bourbon and Whiskey tasting at 6pm . Maker’s Mark Distillery Diplomat John Vickers-Smith will lead attendees through a tasting of four Maker’s Mark products alongside bourbons such as Devil’s Cut and Jacob’s Ghost to show the diversity of whiskey. This tasting will directly precede The Foghorn String Band concert that begins at 7:30. Enjoy specialty Beam bourbon and whiskey drinks at our cash bar while enjoying world class folk and bluegrass music. Tickets to the concert are $18 and are available here.
