Our collective disappointment and embarrassment over yesterday’s weather non-event now behind us, we look forward to a nearly spring-like weekend. Fool me once Old Man Winter… You had your chance and now we are done. We shall soon be thrilling in our abundance of cherry blossoms and fresh berries and baseball and will not think of you a bit.

So now that that is over what shall we do?

Tonight begins the final weekend of the Atlas’ INTERSECTIONS Festival.  I would have recommended local performer, Cara Gabriel’s one woman show about being a newcomer to the H Street neighborhood, I Am the Gentry, but it’s sold out. So instead check out EDGEWORKS Dance Theater’s /CLOSE/R  In it, award-winning choreographer Helanius J. Wilkins probes naked truth and personal identity in a riveting solo dance performance that melds video, original music and text, with intimate humor. Tonight at 9:30 and Friday at 8pm Tickets are $20/ $15 and are available here.

Friday the Hill Center continues its Friday night documentary series with the NOVA film Building the Great Cathedrals. NOVA investigates the architectural secrets that the cathedral builders used to erect their towering, glass-filled walls and reveals the hidden formulas drawn from the Bible that drove medieval builders ever upward. The screening is fee and begins at 7pm. Attendees can Skype with Gary Glassman, the film’s writer and producer after the film. Learn more here.

Over at the Atlas renowned pianist and composer Vijay Iyer and spoken word phenomenon Mike Ladd bring HOLDING IT DOWN, a collaboration with veteran/poet Maurice Decaul. The evening is a this documentary concert which sheds musical and poetic light on the returning home of American soldiers of color from Iraq and Afghanistan. Saturday singer-songwriter, guitarist and “pixy banjoist” Zoe Mulford, who hails from the UK, visits the Corner Store. The evening is a concert and a release party in celebration of her latest CD Coyote WIngs, a mix of acoustic folk, with a dash of vintage jazz. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. www.cornerstorearts.org

If you are into dancing in the streets, head over to H around 5pm, the Metropolitan Youth Tap Ensemble are throwing a Street Tap Jam in front of the Atlas. The event is free so why not head over and enjoy some great dancing with the nice weather.

Would you like to support a local school and eat yummy food? Head to the North Hall of Eastern Market for The Alchemy of Great Taste, a food and drink event that benefits Tyler Elementary. Sunday morning at 11am Pamela Ferguson and Alouette the dragon give a concert at the Hill Center. Pamela is a fine violinist who is equally at home in jazz, classical, gypsy, and folk music. Alouette is, well, a dragon. And there you go. The pair has appeared at both the National Zoo and the Kennedy Center. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased here.

The Our City Film Festival takes over the Atlas. Presented by Yachad the festival consists of DC-focused documentaries, narratives and experimental films are showcased in a full day of screenings and festivities that celebrate our city’s myriad cultures, residents, communities and spirit.
