Outdoor movies, concerts, and festivals have become hallmarks of Washington DC in the warmer months over recent years. It’s almost like the revolt against extreme air conditioning. One of the most relaxing and popular options has to be the Yards Park Concert Series, which kicks off on Friday, May 4 at 6:00 p.m with the Monster Band, playing covers of modern hits. Continuing the tradition from last year, the free events are scheduled Friday evenings throughout the warmer months and highlight a diverse array of local musician. Expect rock, reggae, salsa, and danceable cover bands that each perform for about two hours on a small stage on the boardwalk, backed by views of the river.
While you are welcome to bring a picnic dinner to the concerts, each week a number of food trucks will set up shop at the edge of the park to offer snacks and drinks. Last year saw repeat appearances by Brown Cow ice cream, Rolling Ficelle sandwiches, and many others. Temporary booths also get set up in the park from pre-approved vendors.
