Everyone I know is a sneezy mess right now thanks the delights of spring in DC. With that in mind I have carefully collected a group of indoor activities for you to enjoy. Be well my friends. Your neti pot or OTC claritan is your BFF.
Tonight
This is the final weekend to check out Theater Alliance’s How to Disappear Completely and Never be Found, These instructions could come in handy should those student loan bills become too pesky.
Trivia Night at Rock & Roll Hotel presented by Trivia Kings features ten total rounds running 10-15 minutes long, each evenly valued at twenty possible points. These rounds are divided up into three uniform periods each containing three different types of rounds which provide a variety of answering methods and subject matter content. It sounds confusing but the trivia night is free and you must be 21 to participate . The fun starts at 7:30 and the doors open at 6pm.
Friday head to the Red Palace where Brown Girls Burlesque of New York City makes their DC premiere with Soul Train vs. Solid Gold! These ladies are here in DC to pay tribute to those favorite music shows. I mean what little girl didn’t want to be a Solid Gold dancer?? Before the Fly Girls made their debut anyway. The event is hosted by the hilarious Regie Cabico (who recently performed at the Atlas with SpeakeasyDC) with DJ Natty Boom. There are two shows, at 9pm and 11pm, and doors open a half an hour before. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 on the day of the show.
For a somewhat different evening but still featuring female performers, you could head to the Atlas at 8pm to see the William and Mary’s Womens Chorus. They perform a diverse repertoire of both secular and sacred music from all over the world. This concert is the third on the Chorus’s Twelfth Annual Spring Tour, which is taking the group to Annandale, VA, Washington, D.C. and Virginia Beach, VA.
Saturday night, jazz musician Gina Sobel is performing at the Corner Store at 8pm. She has been called a “bombastic” flute player and songwriter. The show is at 8pm and tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.
Over at The Fridge from 7pm – 10pm is an art show called Ras and Friends: Reminisce Over You Art Show which features works from Ras, Janelle Sanders, and Elizabeth Stewart. The event is free and they promise “Music, Appetizers, and A Good Time!!” The show benefits the organization Round Edges which works with at-risk youth.
Sunday head back to the Corner Store for some bluegrass with Linda Lou and the Flatbellys. These midwesterners take traditional music in different directions but stick to the essentials of the genre, tight harmonies and musical craftsmanship.
