Caution! Leprechauns in Dublin

Can one cook corned beef and cabbage on a grill? Seems like many are planning for first-ever St. Patty’s day cookouts thanks to this lovely May weather we are having. We already have run down the list of ways to celebrate your Irish heritage but what else is going on this weekend?

Tonight head over to the H Street Playhouse for Theater Alliance’s production of How to Disappear Completely and Never be Found.  This is the first directorial effort by TA’s new artistic director Colin Hovde. The play is based upon an actual self help book bu the same name which gives simple instructions on how to get out of your own life.  This fictional take focuses on a basket-case of an ad exec who’s life is falling apart.  Because if your life was going well why leave it?  No doubt you’ll feel good about your own lot after spending time with him but if not you will at the very least leave with basic instructions on starting over, passport and all.

March is Women’s History month and the Folger is celebrating 1000 years of women writers. 1000 years ladies. As part of this celebration the Consort is honoring Francesca Caccini, known as La Checcina, or the songbird, who was one of the guiding spirits behind the revolutionary music of the earliest operas and the brilliant solo songs of the Baroque. Composer of a wide range of solo songs, duets, and stage music, she is perhaps best known for her La Liberazione di Ruggiero, the first opera by a woman, which premiered in 1625. Soprano Michele Kennedy will join the Consort for a performance that begins at 8pm. A free pre-show discussion is at 7. More info can be found here.

Drivers will be trapped here on Saturday morning due to the marathon so you may as well cheer on the runners. That evening head to the Red Palace. Former Black Crowes guitarist Rich Robinson is performing without his starlet marrying brother.  Stick around because DJ Phil Goyette, otherwise known as the Hipster Housecleaner, is spinning at 10.

And don’t forget about St. Patrick’s Day!  Our new contributor, Heather Cipu, has your guide for celebrating on the Hill.

Sunday check out the collaboration between the Capitol Hill Chorale and the Capital City Symphony at the Atlas at 5pm. The program features selections from Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Brahms’  Nänie. Seems like a soothing way to end a weekend.

Jen DeMayo is Director of Community for the Atlas Performing Arts Center.
