Tuesday Morning Circle Time

Good morning! Those of you who did not get yesterday off are surely irritated with those of us that did. Columbus Day throws quite a wrench into a schedule. Some school districts get off, some don’t.  Some lucky Mont Co parents had the day off and the kids had school which almost never happens.

Considering the near universal disdain and confusion about the explorer we are meant to honor with the holiday perhaps we should rethink it. I know some Italian-Americans (not this one) consider it a big deal so perhaps we replace Christopher Columbus with another Italian more relevant to American life? Like Madonna. Leave your suggestions in the comments.

Regardless of the number of days you had they were surely lovely. Maybe too warm for some who prefer their Octobers with some more bite but given the rainy September we had let’s call it even.

Hockey fans were rejoicing at the start of yet another season, at least the ones in my house were. A few the more genius members of the Occupy DC folks attempted to take over the Air and Space Museum. And Taste of DC was back, did anyone check that out?

What did you do this weekend?

Jon: I spent most of Saturday doing what I hope is the last round of major yard work for the year, capping the day with my first trip to Tortilla and a trip to Pound Coffee.  Monday was a day off for me and my little one (but not my wife), so we took a trip to Baltimore to drive family to the airport and then spent time at the National Aquarium.

Kyra: Wondered why the hell she can’t leave well enough alone in her Hill home.

Maria: Picked green beans, tomatoes, lavender and basil; enjoyed the mercies of the beautiful weather; cleaned house; caught up on sleeping; did homework; took pictures of people; walked a lot; hugged her boys and lavished lots of loud, obnoxious kisses on them; and generally was grateful for what is sure to be the last of the beautiful weather around these latitudes.

Jen: Went to Connecticut to surprise a good friend for his 40th birthday. The weather was too warm for leaf peeping but we had fun just hanging out and eating lots of carbs with good friends and family.

of course, it turns out that the main “genius” trying to “take over” air and space was a right-wing nutjob.
