To Do List

Uploaded to The Hill is Home's flickr stream by jsmjr.

Given the number of people at last year’s H Street Festival, I’m expecting to see you all there on Saturday from noon to 7pm.  There will be art cars and artists, Chinese dragon dances and speed chess, contests for tattoos and pie eating.  Plus music and performances on stages at 8th, 10th, 14th and on a special children’s stage.  My favorite from last year was watching a group learn the steps to a dance and then performing for the crowd.  You find yourself doing all kinds of unexpected things on H Street!   If you have your camera handy, please share your favorite festival photos on our flickr group.

If that doesn’t completely wear you out, The Fridge is currently showing an exhibit by DC-based artist Ben Tolman.  The show is billed as “ink drawings revealing the whole range of Tolman’s art making process from doodles on napkins to obsessively crafted works.”  Obsessive is right; there is some major attention to detail in these doodles.  Through October 9th.

Taffety Punk’s Riot Grrrls continue to tackle Much Ado About Nothing with their all female cast.  Set in the south against the backdrop of soldiers returning home, the show got a good review by the Post this week, so check it out before it closes on September 24th.   At the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, 545 7th St, SE.

This is also the last weekend of the DC Shorts Film Festival, our own home-grown ADD film scene.  The Atlas hosts films starting Friday night at 7pm and Saturday and Sunday starting at noon, including Best of the Fest showings in the evening.  Saturday and Sunday noon films are free and family friendly.

Catch some music Friday night at 9pm at SOVA Sessions where Sinister Sound Set will play you into the weekend.  On Saturday morning, you can take one of the 10am weekend tours of the Elizabethan Garden at the Folger Shakespeare Library.  Tickets are free and tours will end for the season on October 15th.

Hit the Festival a little too hard?  Capitol Hill Yoga will cure what ails you with their Restorative Yoga workshop on Saturday from 3-5pm.  Registration is $35 with 25% of proceeds going to Anahata Grace, whose mission is to share the physical and mental health benefits of yoga and holistic wellness services to individuals in need.
