If you’re among our early readership, you may remember one of our first ruckus-inspiring posts. It did not involve sandwiches or burgers, or even your grocery bill; no one was dramatically arrested; nor was anyone was sighted vacuuming in skinny jeans.
The idea was, literally, to stump you with a stoop. I thought our small, if growing readership would find a simple picture of a front stoop pretty innocuous; and since I am ever so fond of checking out local homes’ architectural features, I thought this style of post would make for easy weekly content as the fledgling blog was getting its legs. Well, thanks to Stoop Stump, I had the pleasure of getting acquainted with a commenter with the pseudonym of Silence Dogood; took some pointed and just-a-little-bit-insulting feedback ‘on the chin;’ and yet, felt heartened as a few folks cheered me on. It quickly became apparent that The Hill is Home could be a place for both heated and rich conversations. You all have strong opinions about things serious and inane, and my hope that the blog would become a place for neighborly conversations (ok, and shouting matches) was well on its way.
In the end, I decided recruiting more writers was a better use of my time, and thankfully, additional, more valuable content followed. Thank heavens for those writers and their posts that inspire comments — witty and caustic, hurtful and insightful– and especially for those comments that add something meaningful to the dialogue and exchange of information that is so valuable to this community.
So now tell me: where’s this stoop?
I just went back and re-read the old post from 2009. I guess the proof is in the pudding – 2 years later you’re still around, with a strong audience, TBD member, etc. Well done!
S. Dogood was obviously way off, given the veritable firestorm of guesses where this stoop is located.
Best block eva. And not a bad stoop, at that.
