This spring, Sherwood Rec Center at 10 & G, NE has been getting some gardening TLC. The Sherwood Neighborhood Volunteers recently planted a slew of trees donated by Casey Trees to help beautify the grounds. This weekend they’ll continue the job with some shrubs and other miscellanea. If you have some free time on Saturday morning, stop by and lend a hand. I walked by on Wednesday and the place is really looking great. Take this chance to be part of making it look even better! Here are the details from SNV:
Please join the Sherwood Neighborhood Volunteers for our next day of service at the Sherwood Recreation Center (640 10th St NE) this Saturday, May 21, from 10 am – 1 pm. We’ll be planting several bushes in a new bed we’ll be creating next to the entrance, weeding, mulching, and adding to the existing beds along the walkway, and doing other spring cleaning to beautify our neighborhood Recreation Center. If you haven’t been by since the trees we planted earlier this Spring sprouted leaves and blossoms, this is a great opportunity to do so and to meet some more good neighbors.
Thanks for letting us know about this, we love Sherwood and are grateful for an opportunity to give a little something back. -HR
I have a general question about Sherwood….what type of offerings go on inside the building? Any classes, etc? I visited the DPR site but there isn’t much of any insight. The outside is looking better and better, thanks for the good work.
@Wizzer — I’m not familiar with the full range of offerings, but aside from using the tennis court I’ve been for community meetings and noticed what looks like volleyball and basketball leagues in addition to the weight room. There’s a tennis coach that organizes lessons from there as well.
I’m checking around for more details.
@Wizzer — Sherwood Neighborhood Volunteers (http://sherwoodvolunteers.wordpress.com/) is working on pulling together a more useful schedule of classes and events, but in the meantime here is what they shared with me about the rec center schedule:
Here’s the best link from DPR: http://www.asaponlinereg.com/CourseDetail.aspx?CourseId=12217
There’s Playgroup/baby-toddler time MWF (10-noon), which is organized by and popular on MOTH.
Adults have Soccer on Monday evenings, Basketball on Tuesdays, Volleyball on Wednesday evenings.
There’s also street hockey (ages 6-13) on Fridays at 4 pm, and youth soccer (ages 5-9) on Tuesdays & Thursday (5:30-6:30).
If folks want to suggest other activities, the best people to contact are Mr. Marshall or Ms. Foster.
