Hello Cupcake to Open on Barracks Row

Barracks Row Main Street announced the news yesterday on their Twitter account — Hello Cupcake will be opening a second location at 705 8th Street, SE, one of the three storefronts previously occupied by Capitol Hill Bikes.  According to Barracks Row Main Street, they hope to open for business in two or three months.

I realize that a lot of people are tired of the cupcake trend, so this is probably not the most exciting news for all of our readers.  I, however, love the individually sized treats and am excited to have another spot to satisfy my cravings.

The many flavor options — which change every day — include everything from classic chocolate or vanilla, to more creatively named and flavored items such as “Velvet Elvis, ” “Gianduja,” and “Prima Donna,” just to name a few.  Vegan and gluten-free options are also available although the website does stress that their kitchen is small, so anyone with concerns about allergens should “ask before indulging.”  Hello Cupcake also offers catering and delivery.

Favorite cupcake place in the District so I am very excited to have one local. The Peanut Butter Blossom is my favorite.

    Sorry but Georgetown Cupcake rules.

we were missing a good bakery on the hill, and i love cupcakes (pb and chocolate especially – glad to hear those are good!). so i am thrilled we are getting a good cupcake place finally.

I think we need to collectively decide the new trend for mini snacks on the Hill. I love cupcakes, but I don’t like paying a king’s ransom for a snack I can easily make at home, which yields a count of 24 for the same price.

    Mini cheesecakes anyone?!

  5. Kyra, I know you and I have gone round on this topic in the past (as a single person, I have no need for 24 cupcakes not to mention the time it takes to bake them since I don’t do boxed mixes) so I’m thrilled for this development. Hello Cupcake, while not my favorite on the DC scene (that honor goes to Lavender Moon in Old Town) is really, really good.

I’m not sure that cheesecake doesn’t also fall into your premise of being able to make it at home for cheaper though. If I had to pick a tiny dessert trend for the Hill, I’m voting macarons!

  6. Kyra says:

I like macarons! Really, any fancy, hearty “cookie” will do.

  7. Jon says:

There’s a rice pudding shop in NYC that is all the rage.

I still think Curbside’s are the best…although those Lavender Moon cakes you brought us Nichole were pretty spectacular…

  9. Jon says:

We had curbside cupcakes for the first time last week. They were pretty good, but I agree Lavender Moon’s baked wares take the cake. (sorry, bad pun).

  10. @sebastian Gtown cupcakes are good but I think they are way over-hyped. Two blocks down you can get a cupcake that is just as good, if not better, at Baked and Wired with no wait at all. And there’s actually room to sit and enjoy your cupcake and a cup of coffee there!

Truthfully, Hello Cupcakes aren’t my favorite either, but they are yummy and I think they’ll make a great addition to Barracks Row.

ya! this is good news. i can bake my own cupcakes cheaper, but even with a kid and husband, 24 are just too, too many! i usually take them to neighbors, but then i never know who really wants them.

  12. Delish says:

Actually I heard another cupcake shop was opening on 8th Street! Owned and run by a Capitol Hill resident!
