Washington Post food critic Tom Sietsema was spot-on in describing Charlie Palmer Steak as a place that’s “convenient for lobbyists and the people with whom they seek face time.” But it’s also a place where you can eat a fantastic steak.
Last week, Charlie Palmer’s started offering free corkage on Friday nights. So if you’ve been holding onto a special bottle, one of these Fridays might be the night to pull it out. Or you could swing by Schneider’s – just half a mile away – to pick up something nice.
Charlie Palmer’s prides itself on only serving American wine. So my advice is to stick with the patriotic theme and pick out something from California, Washington, or Oregon. If you (and the rest of your table) plan on ordering steak, a big wine will work best — think a Cabernet Sauvignon or Bordeaux Blend. But if you’re not feeling steak (Charlie Palmer’s is known as a steakhouse that actually knows how to cook other food), bring a Pinot Noir. A good one will match anything.

I had one of the best steaks ever at Charlie Palmer. It’s one of my dad’s favorite places to eat when in teh city.
