Wash up, people,  put a fresh sprig of greenery behind your ear, and start looking for signs of spring. You’ll find some early color here. City Gallery at 804 H Street has an opening reception  for its eclectic all-member exhibition March 6th from 6-9 pm.

Now, butter up: Join the Boy Scouts on the Hill at their Pancake Feast fundraiser on Saturday at Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church on 4th Street and Independence Ave SE. Adults: $10 Kids under 12: $5. Doors open at 8am, cooking ends at noon. Have a pancake for every school your kid didn’t get into on the DCPS lottery, and build a high stack!

Go no further than this link to make your summer plans. Just vote for your favorite movies to watch under the stars, in the lap of summer’s long balmy nights (yes, they WILL return). The Capitol Riverfront Business Improvement District (BID) is presenting UNDERDOGS as its Summer 2010 outdoor movie theme. Help it select the 10 best Underdog movies by completing its online survey. Warning,  Rocky was only an underdog, once–don’t try Rocky 2 through 12, or whatever  it went up to. And with the Olympics so recently behind us, I bet that Miracle with Kurt Russell on the 1980 U.S. men’s hockey team besting the Soviet team is a top pick. Enough testosterone. Name any Underdog movie with  a female heroine underdog, or would that just be known as a chick flick, a la Pride and Prejudice and Pretty Woman? Hmmm.

Movies will be shown every Thursday night beginning June 3rd at 2nd Street, SE and M Street, SE – the future site of Canal Park. Bring your family and friends, and enjoy the movies! This year locations have been moved closer to the Metro and will accommodate more people.

In the meantime, please check out Modern Underground at Ebenezer’s Coffeehouse, hosted by the Hill’s own Laura Tsaggaris. This week Laura presents Victoria Vox & Matt Douglas.  The show begins at 7pm on Thursday the 4th and has a $7 admission fee.

Speaking of underdogs, Sunday, on the Food Network, at 9 pm, savor Chef Spike Mendolsohn, from Good Stuff Eatery, faces off against Iron Chef Michael Symon.

At the Corner Store Stage this Friday at 8pm, while away the hours listening to Irish singer/songwriter Gerry O’Beirne and American fiddler Rosie Shipley. A native of Ennis, County Clare, Gerry O’Beirne is known for his much-covered original songs, innovative guitar tunings, and prowess on a variety of stringed instruments, including 12-string guitar, National Steel guitar, and ukulele, according to the Corner Store write-up. Reviewers have called the duo “an unstoppable, potently creative force,” it said. Please RSVP. $20 donation requested.

And don’t forget–it’s the last weekend for Intersections, a new American arts  festival,  at the Atlas Performing Arts Center!   The performances of  live music, readings,  dance and drama run by the likes of Tom Chapin, Joe Morton,  and Kathleen Gonzales in her “Bridge of Bodies” monologue about her Haitian homeland, run through Sunday. Gonzales show is also a benefir for haitian earthquake relief and recovery. Two performacnes have been added, one at Saturday, at  7:30 pm and another, Sunday  at 4:30 pm. Tickets: $15.

So, get some color, eat well, and take in top entertainment while helping home, heartland and Haiti.
