This is the fourth in a series of guest posts by Sandra Moscoso, featuring a few of Capitol Hill’s sheroes — remarkable women — in honor of Women’s History Month. Today’s post features Julia Christian. Previous posts featured Heather Schoell, Laurie Siegel and Barbara Percival.
Julia Christian – Child of Capitol Hill, Artist, and all around CHAMPion. An alumnus of the Capitol Hill Cluster School and Capitol Hill Day school, Julia recognizes in herself the “ingrained feeling of needing to give back to the community that raised” her. As Executive Director of the Capitol Hill Association of Merchants and Professional Services (CHAMPS), Julia has worked with the CHAMPS Board to bring to our community innovative programs and events to promote, educate, advocate, and connect on behalf of our local businesses. Among these programs are the First Annual Hilly Awards, Maury-CHAMPS Power Hour, Capitol Hill Tote Bag with Green Schools Initiative, and the current effort to re-launch Market Day. Julia is passionate about the Capitol Hill neighborhood in which she lives and works. Her role at CHAMPS and the many other means by which she contributes provides Julia with that which many of us desire – Julia “wakes up and loves going to work.” Julia’s sheroes are close to home – her mother Abele Robey who instilled in her “a sense of importance about working for your community” and daughter Chloe, future Brent Elementary student and performer.
