My NCAA bracket may be dead but with the 70 degree weather this weekend, I barely even noticed. It was sad to see so many local favorites go down so early but those upsets are what makes the tournament some of the best sports to watch all year! And at least you had some amazing weather this weekend to enjoy if basketball isn’t really your thing. Enjoy it while you can because soon our dear city will be flooded with millions of tourists in search of the famous pink cherry blossom trees. I’m not sure which is more annoying to deal with — the masses of tourists or the masses of protesters who then leave their signs and trash littering our gutters. At the end of the day, it’s really part of the fun of living here as well. Aaah, the joys of calling the nation’s capital home! So what happened around the Hill, other than health care, in the last week? Here are some stories you may have missed:
- DCMud looked at the latest condo building on the Hill to open — 15 East.
- Washington Post’s The Crime Scene reported that police are searching for a man who robbed the PNC on the 600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue on March 12. The suspect is also believed to have robbed the Chevy Chase Bank in the 300 block of Pennsylvania Ave SE on November 23.
- Prince of Petworth shared announced that that the Eagles, Dixie Chicks, and Keith Urban will play at Nationals Park in June. I never would have guessed it, but Dan is a fan of the Dixie Chicks!
- According to H Street Great Street and Frozen Tropics, Ethiopic is officially open today!
- JDLand and Norm Metzger have more information on the sites the Marines are eying for their Community Integrated Master Plan. However, JDLand noted in a second post that the city is still moving forward on its plans with lot 882, one of the pieces of land that the Marines are considering. If you’re looking for more on these projects, JDLand has even more information, as does The Voice of the Hill.
- The Going Out Gurus and WAMU have details and lots of pictures of the soon-to-open Biergarten Haus on H Street. An April opening is looking promising!
- The Hill is Home contributor, Elizabeth Festa, wrote an article for the Washington Post on Gessford Court. Norm Metzger then examined why F Street Terrace was not included in the now-terminated Historic Alleys Program under the DC Department of Transportation.
- For all you dog-lovers, H Street Great Street is reporting that Metro Mutts will open on April 3rd!
