It’s that time of year again hungry Hillers. The time of year when restaurants are preparing to settle into the winter dearth of diners (the “I spent all my moolah on a Wii, or Kindle, or Garnet Hill cashmere, LL Bean gear, at Hill’s Kitchen, etc.” kind). A number of years back the New York restaurant scene cooked up the grand marketing plan known as Restaurant Week, and the cascade of its popularity has sent foodies scampering for prime reservations throughout the country ever since.
So, where to go? I’ve certainly had success venturing to the the downtown haunts, Equinox being tops on my list, in addition to Corduroy. But this year, in an effort to help out the neighbors, I might keep it local.
So, what’s close by and on the list? Art & Soul, B. Smith’s, Bistro Bis, Charlie Palmer Steak, and Sonoma.
This diner is a little disappointed more of our local restaurants aren’t participating. Does that mean business is booming so that they don’t need the extra foot traffic? That would be a marvelous thing. I wonder if Dulce will be up and running with their liquor license and prepare a RW menu? Are you waiting in the wings, Matchbox? Granville Moore’s? Sticky Rice? Cafe 8? Starfish Cafe? Show us the love.
Actually my first choice will be Art & Soul, I’ve been pining to sample Art Smith’s maple glazed veal chop, and I think a certain Spaniard could be convinced to order the braised pork shank. And the hoe cakes of caramelized apples, blue cheese and frissee. And the homemade pickles. Oh, and the honey roasted quince trifle. Oh dear, better build in lots of extra trips to the gym.
Happy eating, and make those reservations ASAP!
Where do you go for Restaurant Week? Who does it well?

Matchbox? Granville Moore’s? Sticky Rice? Cafe 8? Starfish Cafe?
These aren’t exactly the type of restaurants I would consider going to for Restaurant Week. The point of RW, at least to me, is to go to a place where I wouldn’t normally go because of the price. These restaurants are places where you can easily get a meal for $30 any time of the year.
