Here on Capitol Hill, we live amongst movers and shakers, who’s shakes indeed shape this country. But those of us who’ve never been “inside the beltway” folk are equally as interesting. Just on my street, there’s a international trade lawyer, an landscape architect, multiple small business owners, three teachers, a photojournalist, a professional dog-walker, non-profit gurus, a marketing diva, and a yoga instructor.
Who’s that Guy/Gal? will give us the opportunity to get to know one another. You’ve always wondered who that guy is that hands out Expresses at Potomac Avenue Metro, or the woman who always gives you the biggest peaches at the market — and now you’ll know. Tell us who you want to see profiled, or better yet, who do YOU want to profile for HOTH.
Pablo Gonzalez is a Madrileno who thinks the Hill is a good deal sleepier than his home city of Madrid. It is far better than living in Herndon as he did before moving to Hill East. His favorite spots include the Aquatic Center, the SE Library, and the Library of Congress. He still supports Safeway despite the spite his wife has gone over to the “other side” (ie, switched to Harris Teeter. Pablo has lived on Capitol Hill since 2006, and is slowly being converted to small space gardening, focus on small. He recently told his wife, “Before you, I had never dug a hole!”
Pablo prefers instead to hone his cooking skills and is glad his wife renovated the kitchen before he moved in. Paella is his specialty, and last spring St. Peter’s School auctioned off one of his paella “workshops.”
Who’s that Guy Mad-libs:
I think the best thing about Capitol Hill is the pool! The Hill would be perfect if inexpensive wonderful was more abundant, like in Madrid. My favorite place to walk is A Street, Southeast. I recently discovered the community garden on 15th Street, Southeast. Capitol Hill needs more benches!
