Community Carjacking Meeting Scheduled for Tonight

As we’ve written about three times here at THIH, there has been a rash of carjackings in the area. According to police, the increase in car thefts with deadly weapons is up city-wide, but the crimes have hit especially close to home in the last three weeks, as chronicled yesterday by the Washington Post.

Tonight at 6 pm 6:30 pm at Options Public Charter School, located at 1375 E Street, NE, Councilmember Tommy Wells and First District Commander David K. Kamperin will meet with neighbors to discuss the issue and the steps the MPD is taking to address the problem. Wells’s website includes a link to a PDF map of the local crimes. (9:15 a.m. — THIH is verifying the meeting is still on for tonight.)

You can find out how to join the MPD-1D neighborhood listserv here.

I think the meeting starts at 6:30 — not 6:00, right?

  2. Charles Allen says:

Correct — the meeting is scheduled for 6:30 pm, not 6:00 pm. And we’ve confirmed with Commissioner Mary Beatty, MPD officials and the school that the meeting is still on for tonight. We hope to see you there.
